Where are we going?

Bandhavgarh National Park is spread over the Vindhya hills in Madhya Pradesh. The national park consists of a core area of 105 sq km and a buffer area of approximately 400 sq km. The topography of the whole area varies between steep ridges, undulating forest and open meadows. Bandhavgarh National Park is known for the Royal Bengal Tigers. The density of the tiger population at Bandhavgarh is the highest known in India as well as in the world. The national park was the former hunting preserve of the Maharaja of Rewa and at present is a famous natural hub for White Tigers. White Tigers, now a major attraction around the world’s zoos, were first discovered in Rewa, not far from here. It is also believed that all the white tigers across the globe trace their roots to Bandhavgarh. The terrain is broken, with rocky hill ranges, running roughly east and west, interspersed with grassy swamps and forested valleys.

A flawless place to take a walk into the home to some of the biggest predators and cascading waterfalls for a remarkable experience.

Nestled in Central India, Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) lies in the districts of Panna and Chhatarpur of Madhya Pradesh. Managed and best maintained by the Ministry of Tourism of India, the popular Tiger Reserve in MP won the Award of Excellence in the year 2007. Today, the national park has been successful in grabbing the attention of oodles of wildlife buffs and nature lovers travelling from across the globe. When visiting the park tourists can take a walk in the deciduous forest while spotting the species including Sloth Bear Pangolin, Indian Wolf, Four-Horned Antelope, Leopard, Rusty Spotted Cat, Gharial, Chousingha, Indian Fox, Porcupine and a lot more.

The park is gradually growing in popularity among tourists, and the best way to enter this national park is through Khajuraho. Just 25 km away from well-connected roads and rails, tourists can also take taxis and buses easily to reach the park. Additionally, for visitors arriving by air, Khajuraho Airport is the closest airport to this wildlife heaven.

Covering an area of approx 542.67 sq km, the Panna National Park not only lets the tourists come across the rich wildlife and nature but also numerous sites that hold historical importance. In the sense of visiting the park, tourists get the opportunity to witness the stone paintings that date back to the Neolithic era. Declared as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1981, the national park offers the tourists a number of things to do that makes holidays in the Panna National Park a memorable one. The best time to visit this Panna Tiger Reserve (PTR) to see the wildlife and explore these stone paintings is during the winter season from November to March.

Tourists will get the opportunity to indulge in the Jungle Safari that lets one experience the dense ambience and encounter the wildest ranges of mammals, reptiles, birds, flora, fauna and avifauna. Other than this, tourists will even be able to get the chance to take the Tiger Safari which will let one spot the tiger species at close quarters.

While visiting this pristine land, tourists must adhere to all the guidelines set by the Ministry of Tourism and refrain from any actions that could harm the flora and fauna there.

Travel Requirements & Advices for Your India Expedition

Traveling to India is an unforgettable experience filled with wildlife, culture, colors and incredible landscapes. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable expedition with MaiaWildlife, it is important to prepare your trip carefully and take into account a few travel requirements and recommendations.

Passport & Visa:

All travelers must hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry into India and with at least two blank pages.

Most nationalities require a tourist visa to enter India. The easiest option is usually the e-Visa, which can be applied for online through the official Indian government portal. We recommend applying several weeks before departure to avoid any last-minute complications.

Please make sure that all passport details entered in the visa application match your passport exactly.

Vaccinations & Health:

There are no mandatory vaccinations required to enter India for most travelers arriving from Europe or North America. However, several vaccinations are commonly recommended by travel medicine specialists, including:

  • Hepatitis A

  • Hepatitis B

  • Tetanus

  • Typhoid

Depending on your personal health profile and travel history, a doctor may recommend additional vaccines.

We strongly recommend consulting your family doctor or a travel health clinic at least 6–8 weeks before departure to receive personalized medical advice.

Basic precautions such as drinking bottled water, avoiding raw foods from unknown sources and maintaining good hand hygiene are usually sufficient to stay healthy during the trip.

Traveling with Children:

India can be an extraordinary destination for families and young explorers. Children often enjoy the wildlife, vibrant culture and landscapes immensely.

However, due to the nature of safari activities and travel distances, we generally recommend that children joining our expeditions are at least 8–10 years old, depending on the specific itinerary.

Parents traveling with minors should ensure that:

  • Children have their own passport and visa

  • Travel insurance also covers minors

  • Necessary medications are brought along if needed

If you are planning to travel with children, we will be happy to discuss the best options and ensure the expedition is comfortable and enjoyable for the whole family.

Medication & Personal Health:

If you regularly take prescription medication, please bring sufficient quantities for the entire trip, along with a copy of your prescription.

It is also advisable to carry a small personal travel medical kit, including items such as basic pain relief medication, insect repellent, sunscreen and digestive remedies.

General Travel Advice:

India is a country of contrasts, traditions and vibrant daily life. Keeping an open mind, respecting local customs and embracing the experience will greatly enrich your journey.

Our team will always assist you with practical advice before departure and throughout the expedition to ensure that your experience in India is both safe and truly unforgettable.

If you have any questions regarding travel requirements, documentation or preparation, the MaiaWildlife team will be happy to assist you.

Electricity, Voltage and Wall Plugs in India

When traveling to India, it is important to be aware of the local electrical system so you can safely use and charge your devices during the expedition.

Voltage and Frequency:

India operates on an electrical system of 230 volts with a frequency of 50 Hz. This is the same standard used in most European countries. Travelers coming from Europe usually do not need a voltage converter for cameras, phones, laptops or chargers.

However, travelers from countries that use 110–120 volts, such as the United States or Canada, should ensure that their devices are dual voltage. Most modern electronics, especially phone and laptop chargers, are compatible with both systems.

Always check the label on your charger. If it states “Input: 100–240V, 50/60Hz”, it can safely be used in India.

Wall Plug Types:

In India, several plug types are commonly used, but the most frequent ones are:

  • Type C (two round pins)

  • Type D (three round pins in a triangular pattern)

  • Type M (larger three round pins)

Many hotels and lodges accept multiple plug types, but this is not guaranteed everywhere.

Travel Adapters:

We strongly recommend bringing a universal travel adapter so you can easily connect your devices in any situation. This is particularly useful for charging:

  • Cameras and batteries

  • Mobile phones

  • Laptops and tablets

  • Power banks

A multi-port USB charger can also be very convenient when charging several devices at the same time.

Charging During the Expedition:

Most hotels and lodges provide reliable electricity and charging facilities in guest rooms. During safaris and excursions, access to electricity may be limited, so we recommend:

  • Bringing extra camera batteries

  • Carrying a power bank for phones and small devices

  • Charging equipment whenever possible in the evenings

With a simple adapter and a bit of preparation, keeping your devices powered during your MaiaWildlife India Expeditionwill be easy and convenient.

Travel Insurance

Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended for all participants. Your insurance should ideally cover:

  • Medical expenses and emergency treatment

  • Trip cancellation or interruption

  • Personal liability

  • Loss or theft of luggage and equipment

  • Emergency evacuation and repatriation

India is a safe destination for travellers, but proper insurance provides peace of mind and ensures you are protected in unexpected situations.

What to Wear on an Indian Safari Expedition

Choosing the right clothing for a safari in India is important for both comfort and practicality. Temperatures can vary during the day, mornings on safari can be cool, and the environment in national parks is often dusty. Wearing appropriate clothing will help you stay comfortable while also respecting the natural surroundings.

Neutral and Natural Colours:

We recommend wearing neutral and natural collors such as beige, khaki, olive green, brown or light grey. These tones blend well with the environment and are less likely to disturb wildlife.

Bright colors such as red, orange, yellow or blue should be avoided, as they can attract unnecessary attention from animals and stand out strongly in the natural landscape.

Camouflage clothing should also be avoided, as it is not permitted for civilians in India.

Light and Breathable Clothing:

India’s climate can be warm, especially during the middle of the day. For this reason, it is best to wear lightweight and breathable fabrics such as cotton or technical outdoor materials.

Long-sleeved shirts and lightweight trousers are highly recommended. They provide protection from the sun, dust and insects while remaining comfortable in warm temperatures.

Layers for Early Morning Safaris:

Safari drives often start very early in the morning, when temperatures can be surprisingly cool. It is advisable to bring a light jacket, fleece or windbreaker that can easily be removed later in the day as temperatures rise.

Layering your clothing allows you to adapt comfortably throughout the day.

Comfortable Footwear:

Closed and comfortable shoes are essential for travel days, walks around lodges and visits to villages or cultural sites. Light hiking shoes, safari boots or comfortable trainers are ideal.

For time at the lodge, a pair of light casual shoes or sandals can also be convenient.

Sun Protection:

The Indian sun can be strong, particularly during midday. We strongly recommend bringing:

  • A wide-brim hat or cap

  • Sunglasses with UV protection

  • Sunscreen

These simple items will make a significant difference during long days outdoors.

Practical Accessories:

A few small accessories can greatly improve your safari experience:

  • A light scarf or buff to protect against dust during drives

  • A small daypack for personal items

  • A light rain jacket depending on the season

Comfort and Respect for the Environment:

Dressing appropriately is not only about comfort, but also about respecting wildlife and the natural environment. Neutral clothing helps create a quieter presence in nature and allows you to enjoy closer and more authentic wildlife encounters.

With the right clothing, your MaiaWildlife India Expedition will be both comfortable and perfectly suited for unforgettable safari experiences.

After the safari, we have lunch and rest for some time. Then we leave for the evening safari. Its a beautiful ride through these grand landscaped areas, where the river Ken flows through the

(The visit to UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khajuraho Temple Complex can be swapped with one of the safaris)

Day 8:

Its time to bid adieu to land of successful rehabilitation of the tiger population. We check out after breakfast and drive to Khajuraho airport (~30-45 minutes drive).
